Real Business Issues for Tech Lawyers

Following the conference “New Models for Outsourcing” and the conference “Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Technology, and the Law”, Zunic Law Firm took participation at another event in the area of IT law. The conference “Real Business Issues for Tech Lawyers” was held on 8 June 2017 at the Institution of Engineering and Technology in London.

Some of the exciting topics for IT lawyers have been discussed by four different panels. The topics were:

  • New trends in data interception, use, and retention
  • Applying new principles for technology agreements
  • Fake News, ad tech, and liability
  • Legal issues concerning Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

The conference gathered barristers, solicitors, and representatives of in-house teams, such as Graham Smith, Partner a Bird & Bird LLP, Eric Metcalfe, Barrister at Monckton Chambers, Bridget Fleetwood, Legal Director, Pinsent Masons LLP Kit Burden, Partner, Global Co-Head of Technology Sector, DLA Piper (UK) LLP, Matthew Lavy, Barrister, 4 Pump Court, and other truly exceptional practitioners.

In addition, Alex Depledge, an Entrepreneur, who co-founded the well-known start-up Hassle.com described her journey from idea to successful business with 70 full-time employees who joined the firm within 12 months of launch. Thus, dr Andrea M Matwyshyn, professor of law and professor of computer science (by courtesy) at Northeastern University, raised some important legal issues about the Internet of bodies.

This conference discussed some of the real challenges Tech lawyers face today and our law firm was delighted to participate in such a fruitful event.
